importance of titles in search engine optimization (SEO, for its acronym in
English).
Some people have told me they want to include your company
name in the title tag and my recommendation is not to do it because if it is
not a well known brand, they are wasting the value of the title tag.
When people do not include a brand as part of the keywords
to do a search, you do not have an interest in a specific brand.
In times when someone insists on putting its brand name in
the URL, it is advisable to include it at the end of the title tag.
Examples of title tag structure:
if the brand is recognized
Brand Name | CDs, DVDs and Games
If the brand is not recognized
CDs, DVDs and Games | Name Brand
Common Errors in
title tags
What follows is a list of the most common mistakes people
make in the structure and use of title tags.
1. - Use the same title for each page.
Some people, in an effort to save time and effort, use the
same title tag for all pages of the website, this is a serious error since it
is assumed that each page should have different content, and therefore must
have a label different title.
The different titles help search engines to differentiate
between pages and provide them with information to give them a position
(ranking).
2. - Include the brand at the beginning of the label.
As mentioned above, it negatively affects optimization
efforts.
3. - A list of keywords.
The worst thing someone can do is overload the title tag
with keywords, because although it gives a good idea of the services offered,
shows nothing really attractive and interesting to the reader.
4. - No description or keywords.
The reverse of the coin is when title provides very general
information that accurately describes the content of the site.
The more information is provided to the person seeking the
greater the likelihood that it clicks into place.
Title tags are vital to well-structured campaigns search
engine optimization, as they raise the ranking, and increase the number of
clicks as people find what they are looking for even before reaching the site.
